The Corporatocracy of Healthcare and everything else…
I just talked to a friend who moved to Georgia, a state not participating with Obamacare. The healthcare options are limited there because of that fact.
But my friend told me of a Republican Forum discussion about healthcare and their NEW idea. The Affordable Care Act doesn’t allow insurance carriers to compete across state lines as he put it. The Republicans are looking to push and make this possible.
Although this sounds reasonable to lower costs I see some conflicting motives here.
If the Republicans had allowed the Exchanges to operate in their states then there would have been competition and lower prices. In every state that has cooperated and allowed for the Exchanges, the results have been very positive. So the first conflict I foresee is that this problem that the Republicans wish to solve is in fact caused by Republican action against Obamacare.
The second problem I foresee is that large corporate ownership hasn’t necessarily solved anything. Oh, I use to believe as everyone else, that corporate involvement created efficiency of scale. Now I can see how it limits choice and projects greater control to only a few.
Here is a story I think you might find interesting. Years ago I worked for a major shipper. They wished to expand their market in New York City. There were a lot of small carriers in New York at the time. The carrier undercut prices and drove its competitors out of business. They used their profits elsewhere to sustain the losses in New York at the time and were successful at driving the other carriers out of business. They then wanted to expand their business into Canada. They used the same tactic with great success. Once they had dominated these markets they in turn raised prices. Without competition there was no one to object or provide an alternative.
If the Insurance Industry is allowed to build major players in ALL US markets across the country who is to say that a similar thing to what happened in the shipping market might not happen in insurance. Lower prices, efficient marketing of policies driving the local guy out of business and then they dominate the national market as did the shipper I mentioned.
America has shifted from small and moderate sized business with local ownership to these huge mega corporations with subsidiaries across the country. They, these corporations, have found ways to avoid taxation and no longer contribute to the national welfare while at the same time dominating the national discussion through their political contributions.
Isn’t it time we woke up? Isn’t it time we accept the fact that the Republican Party no longer represents the will or best interests of the people and that Corporate America doesn’t believe in Democracy. Is building another Corporate Monopoly, the Insurance Monopoly, such a good idea?

The problem is greater than just a political party. It is time we accepted the truth. We as a nation have terminal cancer and if we don’t fight for a new cure we will die as a nation.
So as we look back at our history and see all those who have died to give us this great land, the question is, “How much do you love this country?”
Do you love it enough to participate in Primaries, Elections, and help others to participate? Do you love it enough to write letters? Do you love it enough to speak up against all those who would silence “the voice of the people”?
Too many have died to preserve what we so readily give up, our freedom and our Democracy.
It’s time to bring back the true meaning of “We the people” to this country.
