A Pro-Lifer walks into a room of pro-choice high schoolers...

Wed Oct 17, 2007 at 06:30:23 PM PDT

That’s the underlying tone of this diary.  On Tuesday of this week, a woman from the New York City Pro-Life committee came to talk at a school event known as the gender studies round table. My school is exceedingly liberal and even more pro-choice. You can see the dilemma. The idea was to bring in new voices to the debate, which I strongly favor and I don’t think I get enough of at my school but that’s another diary all together. On with the story and the underlying implications.

A Brief Guide to Arguing Incorrectly, Logical Fallacies

Tue Dec 05, 2006 at 07:38:03 PM PDT

With all the hubbub going on in this Post-11/7 world we live in, arguments at DailyKos are going up, way up. Tensions are rising; people are getting ready for the bloody 2008 Presidential Primary and people are beginning to argue very poorly. So I think it might be time for a small reminder about some ways NOT to argue.

Logical Fallacies, We all use them. Some more then others but we all use them. This diary is about a few of these logical fallacies, what logical fallacies are, when they are wrong to use, and when they are OK to use.

Full Disclosure: This was inspired by a high school ethics class focusing on debating governmental interference vs. personal liberty. All of these fallacies were pointed out to us during the original debate by our teacher.

Boo, I'm a Republican

Halloween is here and the dentists are getting ready for another excellent cavity season. This is my list of the scariest costumes possible that I might see at my insanity liberal high school tomorrow.

I really don't like Nancy Johnson

Tue Oct 24, 2006 at 07:03:40 PM PDT

Plain and simple I just don't like her. She bothers me to the core more then any other congresswomen. Perhaps it is because she was the first Republican congresswomen I met in my life time. Perhaps it was because I beat her spokesperson back in 2004, when it was the `it' thing to support the Iraq War and Bush was on his way to getting elected (diary outlining the short debate, and if you can send a little love to those candidates mentioned on the page please do so).

Her positions are annoying and her claim of the middle ground is false. This is a race where we can kill two birds with one stone, elect a Democrat, Chris Murphy to the House and Ned Lamont to the Senate, and take down two Lieberman Republicans. Nancy Johnson has said (for political gain and Lieberman's endorsement) that she would vote for Lieberman in the general election. More reason to vote Lieberman out, he is endorsing a Republican.

This is a race we should win and will win if there is a Democratic rout, and even if it isn't a 50 seat rout we should win this one anyway

Going door to door for the first time

Tue Oct 10, 2006 at 03:24:05 PM PDT

On Saturday I along with two other students from my high school, went to upstate New York to canvass for Kirsten Gillibrand in NY-20. She is facing John Sweeny a four term incumbent. I would say it was one of the better experiences I have had during this election cycle.

A brief intro to the district: This is, as one staffer put it, a gerrymandered district. It was designed not to include any of the major population centers around it. It is mostly a rural district, but fortunately for us it only has a PVI of R+3. From my experience this district is not a particularly politically active one, as about 80% of the people I talked to did not know their congressman. The district is about a two and a half hour drive from New York City, so there are few commuters from the district to the city.

Now to my experience

AZ-08 is Done

Fri Oct 06, 2006 at 09:52:03 PM PDT

The Race for AZ-08 is now done. The political perfect storm that the Democrats are using is getting the job done. CQPolitics moved the race from No Clear Favorite to Democratic Favored. As the RCCC has left the race the DCCC will be able to spend on more competitive races across the country. The RCCC is doing the Democrats a favor by conceding what should have been a long hard race.
For the full story click here.
For every race the RCCC lets go, we can have two. One that the leave, and one where we increase spending. Unless they pull out because THEY have won.

(Sorry for the short post, I'm canvassing for Kirsten E. Gillibrand in NY-20 in the morning. I Need the sleep)

Falwell: Clinton would motivate Religous Right more then Devil

Sun Sep 24, 2006 at 05:34:44 PM PDT

I have no words for this.
The Rev. Jerry Falwell acknowledged on Sunday saying that if Hillary Rodham Clinton were the Democrats' presidential nominee in 2008, it would motivate conservative evangelical Christians to oppose her more than if the devil himself were running. (AP)

House Races That Need Money (Part 2)

Sat Sep 23, 2006 at 11:31:36 AM PDT

Here are two more races that were recommended in my last Diary, MN-02 with Former FBI Agent Coleen Rowley and NY-19 with John Hall. Both Races are listed as REPUBLICAN FAVORED at CQPolitics.com

The House Races that Need Money (Small list)

Thu Sep 21, 2006 at 08:30:11 PM PDT

These are Three Races that CQPolitics has listed as LEANS REPUBLICAN where the Democrats could really use some funds. In CT-05 Heavy Incumbant Nancy Johnson has the largest money lead in the competitive CT races. In OH-15 Deborah Pryce holds a 2-1 money lead over Mary Jo Kilroy. In PA-10 Don Sherewood also holds a 2-1 Money lead over Chris Carney. For exact money figures about the races click here

20 most corrupt Congresspersons (and 5 to watch)

Wed Sep 20, 2006 at 06:30:08 PM PDT

The Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) releaced it's second annual list of most corrupt Congresspersons, among the ranks Frist, Burns and Santorum.
Of the 20 on the list 17 are Republicans with Jefferson, Waters and Mollohan being the three Democrats, of the 5 people to watch 4 are Republicans with Murtha being the Democrat.

CT-05 Rep, Nancy Johnson (R) is Gloating

Tue Sep 19, 2006 at 06:55:49 PM PDT

Rep. Nancy Johnson of Connecticut's Fifth District is gloating over her major fundraising edge against State Senator Christopher Murphy. We must win districts like these in order to take back the house.

Where Has all the Cash Gone?

Wed Sep 06, 2006 at 09:40:57 PM PDT

According to Opensecrets.com 44 Million dollars have gone into the coffers of Hillary Clinton Senator from New York, 11 Million dollars have gone to Dianne Feinstein Senator from California, another 11 Million dollars to Ted Kennedy Senator from Massachusetts. Think about that for a while, 66 million dollars go to defending safe seats where their opponents have rased a combined 5 million dollars. To defend Democratic Stronholds of California, New York and Mass, we have to get a fundraising advantage of about about 13:1.
