In the last three years, we’ve seen some of the most transformative liberal legislation passed since the days of LBJ, a recovered economy that miraculously avoided a recession, a record high stock market, a dramatic drop in violent crime rates, a rise in real wages that were most enjoyed by the working class, a solid winning streak of special elections, the colossal incompetence of Congressional Republicans, and real legal punishment starting to be delivered to Donald Trump with almost certainly more to come, and the Democrats’ response to all this amazing news is…
...to wring their hands over Biden’s age.
...to fret over February polls that we know have almost no meaning.
...to float the idea of finding a new candidate in the last minute to be decided by party convention delegates.
I know it isn’t everyone and I’m painting with a broad brush, but seriously, what’s the matter with Democrats? I mean, the Republicans are gleefully lining up behind an incoherent, misanthropic, tyrant-loving, Constitution-hating criminal, and Democrats are sweating about Biden’s energy levels. Historians just voted Biden to be the 13th greatest American president, but “He should step aside!”.
I just want to take all these bedwetters and shake them by the collar (*cough*Klein). We have the most winning argument for re-election in a generation! Fear doesn’t win elections, backbone and fortitude does. Biden will be our nominee and Democrats need to get on board with enthusiasm. If you think Biden is “too old” or any other complaint you might have, get over it, because whatever faults you might find with him are nothing compared to the hellscape that awaits us with a second Trump term. If you are cramping with anxiety over how voters “see” Biden, then step up and help educate people about the amazing accomplishments of his administration.
It’s time for Democrats to stop shaking in their boots and start working with joyful enthusiasm to re-elect one of the most effective, liberal, and impactful presidents in our nation’s history—Joe Biden!
[Edit: I wrote this diary as an act of personal catharsis, so imagine my surprise at seeing it at the top of the Rec List. Obviously this is the case because so many here share my frustration with the fearfulness that so easily infects the Democratic Party. I appreciate everyone’s comments and energy, which I’d like to think will directly translate to an epic Biden win in November!]
