It reminds me of that old phrase: There's lies, damned lies, and statistics.
Greedy Big Coal has been caught red-handed lying in ads about the president's climate action plan. They've got a new radio campaign citing statistics that sound scary -- except that those are completely meaningless stats, based on a discarded proposal that isn't even in the EPA's plan!
It's a little like saying we shouldn't eat organic apples because processed candy bars are high in sugar... it makes no sense at all. That's why the Washington Post's fact checker gave the ads "Four Pinocchios."
This was no accident -- it's a bald-faced, intentional lie, one rooted in greed. The corporate polluters are putting their private profit ahead of our public health, doing whatever they can to stop the new climate action plan.
It's up to folks like you to help set the record straight and stop Big Coal from misinforming the public about the climate -- send your message to the National Mining Association before June 30!
Once 35,000 people call on the corporate polluters to yank their deceptive ads, we'll also share the signatures with the radio stations playing the ads. They have the power to take down the ads, too -- and to refuse to even air the next round.
Again: Big Coal is out-and-out lying. As the Post's Fact Checker puts it, their ad's content "had nothing to do with the EPA rule."
Our friends at the Natural Resources Defense Council have called the ads "false, misleading, and deceptive," and are countering them with ads of their own -- but they need your help. Signing and sharing this action will expose the National Mining Association as a bunch of liars, as well as help spread the truth about how helpful the president's climate action plan actually is. Raise your voice today!
Tell Big Coal and the radio stations playing their dishonest ads -- the climate is far too important for these kinds of lies and games!
