I am a faculty member at New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, which boasts among its distinguished graduates Mrs. Coretta Scott King (‘53).
Today Ms. Stephanie Muñoz, a graduate student (and a superb saxophonist), organized a group reading of Mrs. King’s letter on the steps of NEC’s Jordan Hall Building, in protest against yesterday’s silencing of Senator Elizabeth Warren.
A larger-than-expected group of students arrived. The first seven paragraphs of the letter were read aloud by young women from the student body, while the rest of us hummed “We Shall Overcome”; the final paragraph was read by the whole group, and we finished with a chorus of the civil rights anthem.
It was an honor to be part of this hastily-organized and extraordinarily beautiful action, which (since DK doesn’t allow Facebook videos) can be viewed at this link.
